Professor of Pathology
Prof. Ganiat Olutoyin Omoniyi-Esan is a prominent Professor of Anatomic Pathology (Morbid Anatomy) at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife. She made history as the first female Professor of Morbid Anatomy at the university. She served as the Dean for the 2024–2025 academic session. She is a Consultant Histopathologist at the OAU Teaching Hospitals Complex (OAUTHC). In January 2025, she delivered the university’s 389th Inaugural Lecture titled “The Visible Pathologist: A Paradigm Shift in the Practice of an Anatomic Pathologist”.
Medical Background: She earned her M.B.B.S. from the University of Ibadan and is a Fellow of the Medical College of Pathologists (FMCPath). Her research focuses on the histopathology and molecular characteristics of tropical diseases and cancers, including significant work on breast cancer (specifically p53 protein expression and histological grading), cervical cancer, and ovarian tumors, She is involved in the study of medical education including student perceptions of the medical learning environment.
